    究竟是谁有偏见

    这是一段从曼昆的BLOG上看来的信息,他引用了一篇最近的论文:Is There a Free-Market Economist in the House? The Policy Views of American Economic Association Members。这篇论文发现,虽然经济学家通常被当作是右派,鼓吹自由市场经济,但是通过对美国经济学会的会员问卷调查发现(问了18个有关政府政策的问题),只有8%的会员可以被称作是自由市场经济的支持者,而只有3%的人可以被称作是强烈的支持者。
     
    这篇文章的作者分析到,总是认为经济学家是鼓吹自由市场经济者的原因很可能是这样的:类似的调查发现,在人类学家,历史学家,政治科学家和社会学家,自由市场主义者几乎根本不存在。因此,在学者中,如果你碰上一个自由市场主义者,他几乎肯定是个经济学家。但是,你碰到的自由市场主义者都是经济学家和经济学家都是自由市场主义者根本就不是一件事情,虽然人们很容易把这中间的逻辑搞错。
     
    我看到这个结果的反应是,偏颇或者偏执的似乎不是经济学家。如果只有8%的经济学家可以被称作自由市场主义者,那么经济学家的观点,至少在自由市场的问题上,还是相当平衡的。倒是这么多学科似乎天生的将自由市场排除在了自己的信仰之外让我有点吃惊。从这个意义上,我觉得经济学也许确实更接近科学,因为大概只有物理学家会去思考一个没有摩擦的世界会是怎样的,而一个工程师大概不会去做这样“愚蠢”的假设。经济学家思考自由市场经济,也许和物理学家思考“无摩擦”别无二致。

    Why would professors support free market and smaller government? After all, they themselves are employed by the public sector!
